August 09, 2017, Cambridge, UK: I am pleased to announce the immediate availability of the latest 6.2 version of VNC Connect. This release is part of our ongoing commitment to providing regular product enhancements and improvements, with each release focused on a specific theme.
While VNC Connect 6.2 contains the usual set of ‘bug fixes and improvements’, the primary theme is one of “improved usability”. All of the headline additions are designed to make VNC Connect easier to configure and use, and applicable to a wider range of situations. The list of selected enhancements came from customer requests and recommendations from our engineering and sales teams.
The 6 most significant enhancements in VNC Connect 6.2:
- Improved VNC Server in Virtual Mode option for contemporary Linux environments
- VNC Viewer is downloaded separately from VNC Connect
- Simplified “drag and drop” computer labeling in VNC Viewer
- The macOS installer for VNC Viewer has been streamlined
- Improved accept/reject prompt options
- Support for Portuguese in the VNC Connect Software
1. Improved VNC Server in Virtual Mode option for contemporary Linux environments
Customers using Virtual Mode on RedHat Linux systems can now configure VNC Server to utilize an OS-provided Xorg server. This improves compatibility with modern desktop environments such as GNOME 3, and with other contemporary desktop applications. Virtual Mode can now be used for a wider range of tasks than ever before.
2. VNC Viewer is downloaded separately from VNC Connect
In the past, a VNC Connect download contained both VNC Server and VNC Viewer. To make it easier to update independently, these components are now available in two separate downloads. It is now quicker and simpler for customers to download and deploy the free VNC Viewer on their preferred platform.
3. Simplified “drag and drop” computer labeling in VNC Viewer
Labelling computers in the VNC Viewer is now much easier as the user can now simply drag and drop a label on to a computer, or one or more computers onto a label. This user experience enhancement was widely requested by customers.
4. The macOS installer for VNC Viewer has been streamlined
The installation process for VNC Viewer on macOS has been simplified to use a standard Apple app installation procedure. This now makes the installation of VNC Viewer on macOS platforms quicker and more consistent with user expectations.
5. Improved accept/reject prompt options
This customer-driven enhancement allows further customisation of the accept/reject prompt to remove the “View only” option. Using this feature, administrators can better tailor VNC Connect to match their company’s needs and policies.
6. Support for Portuguese in the VNC Connect Software
This release of VNC Connect has added Portuguese to the list of language options provided with the software interface. Other languages supported include English, German, French and Spanish.
I hope you find these the new enhancements in VNC Connect 6.2 useful. More information and reference material can be found on the VNC Connect product release page. This page also includes an enquiry form where you are invited to leave your comments and suggestions. We’d love to hear from you.
Stay tuned for the next release of VNC Connect. We have some exciting and significant VNC Connect enhancements planned before the end of 2017.
